Should you retake the MCAT?

How to use the MCAT retake tool

Use this tool to see what would likely happen to your MCAT score if you retook the MCAT.

There are reams of data on how MCAT retakes turn out. As you might guess, if you had a very high score you're likely to do worse on a retake, and a very low score is likely to do better.

Mixed MCAT scores (like a high physics score and low verbal) tend to balance out – so it's a question of whether you want to be seen as well rounded or as excelling in one topic. Few test takers obtain a perfect MCAT score.

Type in your scores from your last MCAT and submit. The results page will show you what the likely distribution of scores are for your retake.

The data doesn't assume anything about MCAT prep in the interim – that is, some people do a lot of MCAT test prep while others do less. If you are considering retaking your MCAT, you will need to plan for a lot of prep time. It definitely does not work in your favor to retake the MCAT, just hoping you'll do better without a substantially new prep regimen.

If you have any questions on this tool, retaking the MCAT or MCAT test prep, please post them to our MCAT forum.
