CNA salary

Certified Nursing Assistant salary ranges are among the fastest growing in the nation and can provide tremendous benefits for those interested in becoming a CNA.

As the need for CNAs increases all over the country, certified nursing assistant salary ranges are being adjusted upward. This is one of the fastest growing careers in the world, thanks in no small part to the extreme shortage of certified nurses available to fill open slots. If you want to become a CNA, you’ll find a wide range of benefits and considerable compensation, as well.

Certified Nursing Assistant range

Most certified nursing assistants earn somewhere between $20,000 and $30,000 per year. However, there are those who earn in excess of $35,000 per year. Why is there such a large difference in these pay scales?

It all comes down to how much experience a CNA has, as well as where they work. Experience is the more applicable factor of the two, as this indicates the worth of a CNA to employers. CNAs that have a considerable amount of experience under their belts have almost as much knowledge as an LPN or RN, though without the medical training to back up that experience. However, the fact that these CNAs have significant experience means that employers are willing to pay more for their services.

Location is another significant factor. You’ll find CNAs working in nursing homes, in hospitals, within doctors’ offices and more. You’ll find them employed with home health care companies and even with hospice care providers. Each of these industries has different requirements and commensurately different pay levels.

Education and salary maximums

Nursing assistants must be certified through an accredited CNA course, whether in a traditional classroom on through online nursing classes. These generally last between six and twelve weeks, though the longer the course, the more comprehensive it usually is. Most CNAs will study physiology, nutrition, anatomy, infection control, patient care, basic nursing skills and clinical science. Some online nursing schools offer a more convenient option for filling these requirements than attending a physical school. In addition, these courses ensure that CNAs receive clinical practice to back up course work and classroom learning.
